Friends System Guide
Your Driving Profile
Learn how the friends system works with real examples of two friends Driv and Ile
Adding Friends
Example: Driv wants to add Ile as a friend. Driv sends a friend request to Ile's email. Ile receives a notification and can accept or decline. Once accepted, they become friends and can see each other's trips.
Trip Notifications
Example: When Driv completes a trip, Ile (if subscribed) receives a notification about Driv's trip completion, score, and any violations. This helps friends stay connected and motivated.
Hiding Trips from Friends
Example: If Driv wants to hide his trips from Ile, he goes to Ile's profile and toggles "Hide my trips from this friend." Now Ile won't see Driv's trips in her feed, but Driv can still see Ile's trips.
Hiding Friend's Trips
Example: If Ile wants to hide Driv's trips from her feed, she goes to Driv's profile and toggles "Hide this friend's trips from my feed." Now Ile won't see Driv's trips, but Driv can still see Ile's trips.
Leaderboard & Competition
Example: Driv and Ile can compete on the leaderboard based on their driving scores. They can see each other's weekly/monthly performance and challenge each other to improve their scores.
Subscription Benefits
Example: If Driv has a Pro subscription, he gets access to advanced analytics, unlimited friend connections, and detailed driving insights that he can share with Ile.
Privacy & Security Features
Your Driving Profile
Complete control over your data and friend interactions
Unilateral Privacy Control
Example: When Driv hides his trips from Ile, it only affects what Ile can see. Ile's privacy settings remain unchanged, and she can still control her own trip visibility independently.
Real-time Privacy Updates
Example: When Driv changes his privacy settings, Ile's feed updates immediately. No need to restart the app or wait for changes to take effect.
Complete Unfriend Cleanup
Example: When Driv unfriends Ile, all connections are severed: no more trip notifications, no access to each other's trips, and all privacy settings are reset automatically.
Data Encryption
All your location data, trip information, and personal details are encrypted both in transit and at rest. Your data is never shared with third parties without your explicit consent.

Location Access & Privacy
Your Driving Profile
Understand exactly when and why Drivile accesses your location data
Foreground Usage
When App Is Open: Drivile accesses your location to display your current position, show speed limits, render maps, and enable navigation features. This is standard for any location-based app.
Background Usage
When App Is Closed: Background location access only occurs when Auto Trip Tracking is enabled AND motion sensors detect you're driving. If you're stationary, background tracking stops automatically.
Motion Sensors
Smart Detection: Motion activity (automotive vs. stationary) helps detect when to start/stop auto trips without constant location polling. This saves battery and respects your privacy.
User Controls
Full Control: You can enable/disable Auto Trip Tracking, Sound Alerts, Friend Alerts, and other features. Changes take effect in real time. You can also change permissions in iOS Settings.
Location Tracking Scenarios
Summary: The app tracks location based on a combination of app state, auto-trip setting, motion activity, and trip status. The following table provides a concise overview.

---|---|---|---|---|
Foreground | Any | Any | Any | ✅ Always ON |

The trip ends when you stop moving or when the motion sensor detects you've arrived at your destination.
