Privacy & Security Features

Your Driving Profile

Example: When Driv changes his privacy settings, Ile's feed updates immediately. No need to restart the app or wait for changes to take effect.

Complete Unfriend Cleanup

Example: When Driv unfriends Ile, all connections are severed: no more trip notifications, no access to each other's trips, and all privacy settings are reset automatically.

Data Encryption

All your location data, trip information, and personal details are encrypted both in transit and at rest. Your data is never shared with third parties without your explicit consent.

Location Access & Privacy

Your Driving Profile

Understand exactly when and why Drivile accesses your location data

Foreground Usage

When App Is Open: Drivile accesses your location to display your current position, show speed limits, render maps, and enable navigation features. This is standard for any location-based app.

Background Usage

When App Is Closed: Background location access only occurs when Auto Trip Tracking is enabled AND motion sensors detect you're driving. If you're stationary, background tracking stops automatically.

Motion Sensors

Smart Detection: Motion activity (automotive vs. stationary) helps detect when to start/stop auto trips without constant location polling. This saves battery and respects your privacy.

User Controls

Full Control: You can enable/disable Auto Trip Tracking, Sound Alerts, Friend Alerts, and other features. Changes take effect in real time. You can also change permissions in iOS Settings.

Privacy First: Drivile only tracks location when necessary for core functionality. When you're not driving or have disabled auto-trip tracking, location access is minimized.

Location Tracking Scenarios

Summary: The app tracks location based on a combination of app state, auto-trip setting, motion activity, and trip status. The following table provides a concise overview.

App State Auto‑Trip Trip Status Motion Sensor Location Tracking
Foreground Any Any Any ✅ Always ON
Background Disabled None Any ❌ OFF
Background Disabled In Progress Any ✅ ON
Background Enabled None Stationary ❌ OFF
Background Enabled None Driving ✅ ON
Background Enabled In Progress Any ✅ ON

Frequently Asked Questions

Your Driving Profile

Find quick answers to the most common questions about Drivile

How does auto trip tracking work?

Drivile uses your iPhone's motion sensors and location data to automatically detect when you start driving. When the app senses automotive motion with high confidence, it begins tracking your trip. The trip ends when you stop moving or when the motion sensor detects you've arrived at your destination.

Is my location data private and secure?

Yes, absolutely. All your location data is encrypted and stored securely on your device and our servers. We never share your personal information with third parties. You can control your privacy settings and delete your data at any time through the app settings.

How accurate is the speed limit detection?

Our speed limit detection uses multiple data sources including GPS, road databases, and real-time traffic information to provide highly accurate speed limits. The accuracy rate is over 95% in most areas, though it may vary in rural or newly constructed roads.

Can I use Drivile without an internet connection?

Yes, Drivile works offline for basic trip tracking and speed monitoring. However, features like route optimization, real-time traffic data, and friend network features require an internet connection. Your data will sync when you're back online.

How do I connect with friends on Drivile?

You can connect with friends by sending them an invitation through the app. Go to the Friends section, tap "Add Friend," and enter their email or username. Once they accept, you can share driving experiences, compare scores, and motivate each other to drive safely.

What's the difference between free and Pro features?

The free version includes basic trip tracking and speed monitoring. Pro features include advanced analytics, friend network, route optimization, detailed driving insights, and priority support. You can try Pro features with a 7-day free trial.

How do Siri shortcuts work with Drivile?

Drivile integrates with Siri to provide hands-free control. You can say "Hey Siri, start my trip" to begin tracking, "Hey Siri, end my trip" to stop tracking, and "Hey Siri, what's my driving score?" to get your performance metrics. Set up custom shortcuts in Settings > Siri & Search > Shortcuts.

How does the friends privacy system work?

Privacy controls are unilateral - when you hide your trips from a friend, it only affects what they can see, not their settings. You can hide your trips from specific friends or hide their trips from your feed. When you unfriend someone, all connections are automatically severed and notifications stop.

What happens when I unfriend someone?

When you unfriend someone, all connections are completely severed: they can no longer see your trips, you can't see their trips, all trip notifications stop, and both users are removed from each other's followers lists. This ensures complete privacy and data separation.

How do trip notifications work between friends?

When you complete a trip, friends who have subscribed to your trip notifications will receive alerts about your trip completion, driving score, and any violations. You can control who receives these notifications by managing your followers list in your profile settings.

Can I use Drivile completely hands-free?

Yes! With Siri integration, you can start and end trips, check your driving score, and get voice updates without touching your phone. This is especially useful for safety while driving. Just make sure to set up your Siri shortcuts first in the app settings.

When does Drivile access my location in the background?

Drivile only accesses your location in the background when Auto Trip Tracking is enabled AND motion sensors detect you're driving. If you're stationary, background tracking stops automatically. When the app is in the foreground, location access is always active for map display and speed monitoring.

How can I control when Drivile tracks my location?

You have full control through the app settings. You can enable/disable Auto Trip Tracking, Sound Alerts, and other features. Changes take effect immediately. You can also change location permissions in iOS Settings (Never / Ask Next Time / While Using / Always) at any time.
